A father was halted at a UK airport on his way home and sent BACK to Spain, leaving his family in turmoil. Gines Rodriguez, 45, a Spanish national, was deported from the UK just four days after being detained at Leeds Bradford Airport.

Rodriguez had returned to Yorkshire following a trip to Spain where he visited his elderly mother. He previously lived with his wife Aimee Grossman and their daughter in the UK from 2016 to 2018 and came back to the country in 2021.

Despite applying for residency under the European Union Settlement Scheme, he missed the June 2021 deadline. His wife Aimee, 43, expressed her outrage, saying: "He was treated like absolute dirt. He returned on Tuesday and was told he has to leave on Saturday - there's no justice whatsoever."

The couple, who have been married for 15 years, are facing the prospect of having to uproot their lives. Aimee continued: "We've been married for 15 years, it's not like we just got married last week. It just feels like there's no human rights. I'm British, my daughter's got a British passport. They told him we'll all have to go to Spain and start a new life there, or that we should separate and Gines should go back to Spain by himself - it's just horrible."

Aimee is baffled by the situation, stating: "He's tried to apply for the EU settlement scheme, but he doesn't qualify - god knows why. It just completely baffles me - we've never had issues before. Suddenly our whole lives have done a complete 360.", reports Birmingham Live.

She added, "They told Gines 'your wife and daughter will have to go to Spain with you and start a life there'."

"My daughter is in full time education, she wants to go to university here, she's got her heart set on studying criminal law. She's a British citizen, as am I - it just feels like there's no justice."

A letter from the Home Office stated that Gines was ordered to be deported to Spain because they were "not satisfied that [he] is a genuine visitor" and they "believe it is [his] intention to enter the United Kingdom to work and stay for an extended period or to make the UK your main home".
