Moseley house fire in loft conversion as crews battle blaze on closed road

Two women were treated by paramedics after a house fire in a loft conversion. Firefighters battled a blaze in Moseley earlier today.

West Midlands Fire Service said two engines, three 4x4 brigade response vehicles and a hydraulic aerial platform were sent to Springfield Road, at 4.10pm, today, Tuesday, June 18. Everyone was out of the semi-detached property on arrival.

Hose reel jets were used to extinguish the flames, while part of the road was closed between Passey Road and College Road. The cause of the fire is believed to be 'accidental'.

A fire brigade spokesman told BirminghamLive: "We were called to Springfield Road, in Moseley, at 4.10pm today. Two fire engines, three 4x4 brigade response vehicles and a hydraulic aerial platform were sent to the scene. The fire was in a loft space conversion of a semi-detached property. Everyone was out of the property.

"Crews used breathing apparatus. The fire was out at 4.50pm, with crews damping down. Two women were checked over by paramedics. The cause of the fire is believed to be accidental." West Midlands Ambulance Service confirmed they are currently at the scene of the property fire.

It follows a call from the fire service at 4.14pm. A spokeswoman said an ambulance is in attendance with further information following when available.
