Most popular baby names across each area of Yorkshire revealed

Over the years, names come in and out of fashion and new data has revealed some of the most popular baby names across Yorkshire.

The Officer for National Statistics has recently revealed the most popular names given to boys and girls across the year of 2022. This is the most recent data available at this time.

Across the country, the most popular boy's name was Noah for the second year running after it replaced Oliver in 2021. For girls, the most popular name was Olivia, which was unchanged from the previous year.

Here are the most popular boys' and girls' name in each part of Yorkshire, along with the number of babies given each name.

  • Barnsley: George (26) and Isla (18)

  • Bradford: Muhammad (325) and Ava (33)

  • Calderdale: Muhammad (34) and Freya (14)

  • Craven: Arthur and William (6) and Amelia (6)

  • Doncaster: Noah and Theo (28) and Olivia (22)

  • East Yorkshire: Henry (31) and Phoebe (19)

  • Hambleton: Arthur (10) and Grace (8)

  • Harrogate: Oliver and William (13) and Ava and Isla (11)

  • Hull: Noah (27) and Olivia (18)

  • Kirklees: Muhammad (161) and Ivy (20)

  • Leeds: Muhammad (64) and Olivia (42)

  • Richmondshire: Archie (6) and Lily and Maisie (5)

  • Rotherham: Oliver (26) and Olivia (19)

  • Ryedale: Arthur (9) and Phoebe (5)

James Tucker, head of health analysis at the Office for National Statistics said: "Noah was the most popular name for boys in 2022, for the second year in a row, having replaced Oliver at the top in 2021."

Meanwhile, Muhammad came second overall in 2022, coming up from fifth place in 2021. George remained third while Oliver dropped from second to fourth and Leo moved up to fifth.

The top four girls' names across the country remained unchanged year-on-year, with Olivia in first followed by Amelia, Isla and Ava. Lily moved up two places from seventh to fifth overall.

Mr Tucker added: "Theodore, Theo and Freddie are three new entries into the top 10 boys' names in 2022. Isabella is the only new entry into the girls' top 10."

In terms of Yorkshire, data has also revealed the ten most popular names in the region. These are:
