'Mothership' Supercell Looms Over South Iowa

A storm chaser captured a supercell moving over Danville, Iowa, as severe storms moved through the state’s south on Sunday, May 7.

Video recorded by James Houghton shows the large supercell looming over farmland. Houghton posted the video to Twitter, describing the storm cloud as like a “mothership”.

The National Weather Service (NWS) warned of possible hail and winds up to 70 mph in region. The NWS said more severe thunderstorms were possible across west Iowa late Sunday. Credit: James Houghton via Storyful
