Lennon Miller says he is "honoured" to be nominated for the PFA Scotland Young Player of the Year award.

The Wishaw teenager, who turned 17 in August, has enjoyed a stellar breakthrough season with the Steelmen and will be hoping to follow in the footsteps of Fir Park hero James McFadden, who won the accolade back in 2003.

He faces competition from Rangers winger Ross McCausland, Kilmarnock midfielder David Watson and Dundee midfielder Lyall Cameron for the gong, which has been voted for by their peers.

But the former Coltness High School pupil says he is honoured just to be in contenion and told the Motherwell website: “It’s a real honour to be nominated for this prestigious award.

“I’ve just tried to keep my head down and show people what I can do on the pitch. So, to be recognised by my fellow professionals is a really nice feeling.

“This has been a season of learning and developing for me. Making the step up to the first-team has been hard but I feel like I’ve coped.

“I just want to continue producing and improving.”

Miller is Motherwell's youngest-ever player and goalscorer and has scored twice in 27 appearances for the Steelmen this term.

His inclusion is even more impressive given he spent three months of the campaign missing through injury, following a fractured patella in November.

Miller, the son of former Aberdeen striker Lee, also earned plaudits for a terrific piece of skill in a 3-1 defeat to Celtic in, where his turn bamboozled Celtic skipper Callum McGregor and set up Blair Spittal for a stunning opener.

His nod comes after Fir Park striker Theo Bair was named in the PFA Team of the Year.

The PFA Scotland awards will be held on Sunday night.

Meanwhile, fellow Motherwell midfielder Blair Spittal has been shortlisted for the goal of the season for his oustanding curling strike against Ross County in February.
