A motorbike was involved in a horror crash with a car in Edinburgh this evening.

Emergency services scrambled to the junction at Groathill on Ferry Road after the alarm was raised shortly before 7pm. It's understood ambulance crews attended the scene, but the condition of the driver is currently unknown.

A picture taken from the scene showed the motorcycle crashed in the middle of the road with debris scattered across the street.

Lothian Buses say the 21 and 29 bus are being diverted. The bus operator said: "Due to a road closure [the 21] buses are unable to serve Ferry Road at Wester Drylaw and are instead diverted via Groathill Road North, Telford Road, Hillhouse Road and Corbiehill Road in both directions until further notice."

The 29 services will be diverted via Pennywell Road and Muirhouse Parkway in both directions until further notice.

A Police Scotland spokesperson said: “Around 6.40pm on Tuesday, May 21, 2024 we were called to a crash involving a motorcycle and a car on Ferry Road, Edinburgh. Officers attended however the driver and passenger of the motorcycle had made off.

“The motorcycle had earlier been reported stolen. Enquiries are ongoing to establish the full circumstances.”
