Mountain Lion Spotted Outside Arizona Home on Christmas Day

A mountain lion was spotted on a security camera as it roamed around home in Prescott, Arizona, on December 25.

The resident, Terry Booth, told Storyful the big cat “seemed to be checking out the new enclosed garden” he had just finished building.

Mountain lions are found throughout Arizona and are often shy and elusive, but conflicts between the large animals and humans or pets can occur, according to Arizona Game and Fish (AZGFD). The lions tend to avoid built-up areas, but may come around if there is easy access to food, water and shelter, they said.

In May 2023, a group of “aggressive” mountain lions in the Prescott area were euthanized after wildlife officials said they were a public safety threat, local news reported. The group was thought to be responsible for killing three dogs, and injuring other animals. Credit: Terry Booth via Storyful
