"If you move, I'm going to taser you!" Dramatic bodycam footage of police chase through woods before man arrested 'knee deep in river'

Dramatic bodycam footage has revealed the moment a suspect was chased by police through the woods before being arrested 'knee deep in a river'.

On Tuesday morning (April 23), police received a 999 call to report a stolen vehicle speeding off from a residential area in Cheetham Hill. Specialist drivers from GMP's Tactical Vehicle Intercept Unit later found the van on Long Street in Middleton.

After approaching the vehicle, the suspects then ran off, with one man leading an officer on a foot chase through a woodland area.

A 38-year-old man was later arrested knee deep in a river. Bodycam footage shared by Greater Manchester Police shows the moment the officer threatened to taser the suspect before he was handcuffed and taken into custody.

The officer could be heard shouting: "If you move, I'm going to taser you" before saying: "That was all a bit silly, wasn't it?"

Officers traced the second suspect to Morton Street, also in Middleton, where they recovered large quantities of drugs and other stolen goods.

Two men, aged 38 and 46, have been arrested on suspicion of theft of a motor vehicle and theft. The 38-year-old has also been arrested on suspicion of possession with intent to supply class A drugs.

Sergeant Bobby Nasim from GMP's Tactical Vehicle Intercept Unit said: “This was excellent detection by the team, using specialist tactics we were able to quickly locate the stolen vehicle and its contents.

“Despite trying to run from us, we were able to arrest two men and recover substantial amounts of suspected stolen items and drugs – all thanks to a report from a member of the public. Community intelligence plays a vital role in the work we do, and I hope this demonstrates that we will act swiftly and use all resources available to keep our communities safe.”
