A renowned Essex takeaway which was a popular staple of a city centre has lost its iconic name as a massive refurbishment takes place. Mr Ram and Mrs Cod was an active business on Moulsham Street in Chelmsford until it shut unexpectedly in April this year.

Speculation was mounting on the future of the site, with some people reporting online they could not get food delivered from there. A sign later appeared outside the restaurant confirming a refurbishment was taking place.

The sign read "Under new management. 'Mr Ramz' is getting a huge renovation!". No further details have been shared on the work that is taking place, but now it has continued and the venue has been given a facelift - plus a brand new name.

Replacing Mr Ram and Mrs Cod's sign is "Shula's" and "Ali Baba's Kebab". Another takeaway venue in Essex also has the name Ali Baba's, which sells kebabs and pizzas in Rayleigh. But it is not yet known if this is the same business taking over the Moulsham Street unit.

We do not yet have an opening date for the revamped takeaway. Before closure, Mr Ram and Mrs Cod served takeaway classics such as fish & chips, pizzas, kebabs, burgers, fried chicken, pies, sausages and sausage rolls. It was rated three out of five by the Food Standards Agency for being "generally satisfactory".
