Mrs Brown's Boys star Brendan O'Carroll rushed to hospital amid heart attack scare

Mrs Brown’s Boys star Brendan O’Carroll has recalled the terrifying moment he was rushed to hospital over fears he was dying from a heart attack.

The 62-year-old actor was recently filming the Christmas special of the BBC sitcom in Glasgow when he suddenly felt unwell and made his wife, Jennifer Gibney, call for an ambulance.

‘I thought I was having a heart attack. I had this bug and at about 2am I had to wake Jenny up,’ he told Ireland’s The Late Late Show.

‘I said to her “You should call an ambulance”. We called the ambulance as we wanted to meet them on the street. When Jenny and I were in the lift we were still on 999. They told her to put her hand on my tonsil, to count my heart beat.

‘It was all going on. I had the fright of my life and I thought I was a goner.’

However, fortunately for Brendan it turned out to be a nasty bug and not his heart.

‘When I got in the ambulance they said”‘Well it is not your heart” and I vomited it out for 12 hours. I had a very violent bug – I couldn’t have eaten in six months what I threw up.’

A spokesperson for the actor has reassured fans that he is now ‘feeling tip top and relieved’ and that it was nothing to do with his heart.
