Mrs Wilson's real-life ending proves truth is stranger than fiction
BBC One period drama Mrs Wilson concluded on Tuesday evening (November 11), proving that the truth sometimes really is stranger than fiction.
In the three-part series, Alison Wilson (played by her granddaughter Ruth Wilson) discovers after her husband Alec's death that he'd been living a double-life and she wasn't the only Mrs Wilson.
The final episode saw Alison come face to face with one of her husband's other children Douglas, whose mother is Elizabeth (the FOURTH Mrs Wilson).
Seeing one of Alec's other children in the flesh caused Alison to collapse, as the reality of her husband's deception set in.
Three years later, it was revealed that Alison had decided to devote her life to God and become a nun, having left the home that she once shared with Alec for good and not told her sons Gordon and Nigel about their dad's other families.
In the end, Alison decides to write a book for her sons that will explain the true story of their father and family, so they can get to know all of Alec's other children.
The ending might have seemed abrupt for some, as we never got to fully find out all the details of Alec's life, or why he decided to weave such a web of lies to the women he married.
However, that's how it played out in real life, as the Wilson family are still searching for details about Alec's life, while MI5 still refuses to release all his files.
But the drama ended on a happy note, as it flashed forward to 2018 and showed Alec's four surviving sons together, joined by their children and grandchildren including Ruth.
Viewers were full of praise for the drama, especially the performance of Ruth, who added an extra special touch of realism playing her own grandmother.
