Much-loved Indian restaurant announces shock closure
A much-loved Indian restaurant in south Manchester has shut suddenly.
Amma's Canteen in Chorlton broke the sad news of its closure on its Instagram page earlier today (Sunday). The family-run restaurant, in Barlow Moor Road, cited "rising product prices and inflation" as the reasons behind the decision.
Announcing the closure on social media, Amma's Canteen said: "Despite our best efforts, the challenges we’ve faced along this journey have proven insurmountable. We are immensely grateful for the unwavering support of our loyal customers, but unfortunately, with rising product prices and inflation, we can no longer sustain our business.

"We recognize that this news may disappoint you, but we’ve reached this decision as a family after much consideration. Your support has meant the world to us, and we extend our heartfelt thanks for accompanying us on this journey."
After opening in 2017, Amma's Canteen became popular for its south Indian dishes, with a menu centred on street snacks such as tamarind chicken wings, crispy okra and chilli paneer, alongside dosas, oothapams and a handful of home-style curries.
Following the news of its closure, loyal customers reacted with shock and sadness.
One wrote: "So incredibly sorry to hear this, absolutely loved Amma’s and raved about you to everyone. Will miss your insane chicken thoran dosa and chicken 65 so much. Best of luck with the next chapter."
Another added: "I’m so sorry to hear this. You were my favourite restaurant in Manchester.
"Only this morning I was thinking of coming tonight. Everything going on right now with the cost of living crisis is horrendous."
The restaurant is the latest in Chorlton to announce it is shutting its doors for good this year. Back in January, the popular Scottish-Indian fusion restaurant Roti closed its restaurant in Barlow Moor Road.
