Building work has begun on a new pub in the heart of Crowthorne. Set to open early next year the eatery and bar will be near Buckler's Forest, a beautiful natural space with plenty of walks.

Run by Hall & Woodhouse, the purpose-built restaurant and bar will comprise five different spaces for guests to enjoy. There will be a dedicated bar, a pantry/café for coffee and cakes through to relaxed dining and drinks, a vibrant dining space, an extensive outdoor terrace, and a large garden to make the most of the gorgeous location.

Once complete the independent family-owned pub should seat 150 people as well as create 40 full-time jobs for the community. The two storey building will have a steel structure with a mixture of brick, timber panelling and glazing.

The brewery runs a number of pubs across the country, including The Anchor in Woking and The Scarlett Arms in Dorking. While both of these pubs offer something completely different, both include a Sunday roast menu.

Sat next to Buckler’s Park the pub will be a gateway to walking trails and natural viewpoints. Buckler's Forest is not just woodland, but also includes ponds, headland and grassland. As the land used to be part of the Transport Research Laboratory, the forest also has some unusual features such as the fire tower.

There are a number of the walks that can be completed around the area, which are popular with dog walkers and bird spotters. With the village only around a 15 minute drive from Frimley, the new pub will be just over the Surrey border. However, it is still more than accessible from towns such as Guildford (35 minute drive) and Woking (32 minute drive).

Mark James, property director of Hall & Woodhouse, said: “At Hall & Woodhouse we are driven by innovation and our aim is to create a building of real quality. We are so passionate about providing a warm, welcoming offering that reflects the local environment and its heritage.

“Similar to our plans for the building’s exterior, the restaurant’s décor will take inspiration from its surroundings. Guests can expect to see plenty of green throughout the building. We will have lots of plants, stylistic artwork, colourful soft furnishings, and exposed brick walls. Hall & Woodhouse Crowthorne will have a contemporary style, but with a warm feel and lots of colour and character.”

He added: "We have designed H&W Crowthorne to welcome guests at any time of day, from informal catch-ups over coffee, to family celebrations enhanced by a variety of locally sourced dishes. We are especially looking forward to guests enjoying a drink on our year-round terrace – whether that’s a pot of tea, cocktails, or a pint of our delicious Badger beer.”

The company is keen to empathise with sustainability. Solar roof panels will be installed to generate enough green energy to run the building’s heating system. Additionally, the building will feature LED lighting, sustainable waste disposal, upcycled materials and furniture, and plenty of outdoor bike parking.
