A mum died before drug detox treatment could start, an inquest heard. During a two-day inquest into her death, it was heard how Kelly Beck was discovered lifeless on September 12, 2022, at The Queen's Head in St Austell town centre.

The 33-year-old care home employee had been suffering with her mental health and with alcohol and drug addiction at the time. Tyhe inquest held in Truro heard how Kelly's addiction became apparent to her family in 2021, two years after she gave birth to her son.

Her husband Ashley Beck told the inquest that Kelly was a "fantastic" mother and empathetic carer who had been crying out for help to kick out her habit and get her life back on track.

As her issues worsened the couple decided it would be best not to live together and Kelly first went to live with her dad then was placed in temporary housing at the Travelodge in St Austell. By September 2022 she was moved to The Queen's Head, a hotel and pub also in the town.

Her family raised issues about the care she received from the various addiction agencies and Cornwall's health and mental health services but the inquest found no evidence of any neglect. In fact it was heard that Kelly had engaged well with several agencies including We Are With You.

She had been approved for detoxification treatment in August 2022 but sadly the young mum passed away before from multiple drugs toxicity before the treatment could start. Andrew Cox, senior coroner for Cornwall and the Isles of Scilly, concluded in a drug related death.
