What did you miss?

BBC One's upcoming Agatha Christie adaptation Murder is Easy offered actor Douglas Henshall a different kind of challenge than he's used to. The actor admitted working with the two bulldogs was "the bane of my life on set".

Set to appear as the moustachioed Major Horton opposite David Jonsson's sleuth Fitzwilliam, Morfydd Clark's Bridget and Penelope Wilton's Miss Pinkerton, the Scotsman took a seat on the This Morning sofa to promote the two-part murder-mystery today (15 December).

In particular, he told presenters Dermot O'Leary and Lisa Snowdon all about working with a couple of English bulldogs.

What, how and why?

"I have these two very, very sturdy English bulldogs that are my constant companions and bane of my life on set," began Henshall, whose most famous TV jobs are Primeval and Shetland.

"Bulldogs, they're so kind of chilled. It's just like 'Is there any chicken around?'" he added, before suggesting that they were sick and tired of sitting there looking at him and much more interested in the crew member holding the chicken behind the camera.

"I'm just like, 'Please will you relax?' and that was slightly more testing. It was great fun."

What else happened on This Morning?

Elsewhere during his This Morning visit, Henshall opened up about teaching his young daughter Anja the ways of Christmas classics.

"I was trying to explain Christmas films to her the other day, because we were talking about Chitty Chitty Bang Bang and Oliver!, and I was saying I was doing this Agatha Christie thing and it's gonna be on over Christmas. And she said, 'But they've got nothing to do with Christmas...'" he recalled.

"I said, 'No, that's not the point!' because the only time when you got to see these films back in the day when I was young was they only came on at Christmas, and so that's how they became associated and known as Christmas films, but she couldn't get her head around that."

Murder is Easy premieres 27 December at 9pm on BBC One.
