Murderer Christopher Halliwell may have killed more, says victim's dad

The father of murdered Becky Godden has told Sky News he believes more victims of killer Christopher Halliwell are about to be found.

John Godden says the search of the garden and garage of Halliwell's former home in Swindon and a neighbouring garden had brought back "horrendous" feelings.

"It's just more trauma for us," he said. "It just feels like Becky has been murdered again."

Mr Godden welcomed the new search, but said it should have happened sooner.

"It's a possibility there could be more victims... but it should have been done six years ago at the beginning of this case," he said.

Halliwell will never be freed from prison after being given a "whole-life" sentence for murdering 20-year-old Becky in 2003 and 22-year-old Sian O'Callaghan in 2011.

Following his sentence, police said there was a "distinct possibility" that Halliwell had killed more people, highlighting the eight-year gap between the murders.

Last year it emerged that Halliwell had spoken of his desire to become a serial killer in 1985.

In a phone call from prison, he allegedly claimed that officers wished to interview him about eight murders.

A police spokeswoman said their work at the property in Swindon is expected to last five days.

White tents and black tarpaulin have been erected at the site. Security staff are at each end of the police cordon and forensics officers have been carrying out a detailed search.

Detective Chief Inspector Jeremy Carter, who is leading the investigation, said: "Whilst we do not have plans, at this stage, to search inside the properties there will be some disruption to the occupants."

Halliwell, 53, abducted office administrator Miss O'Callaghan as she walked home following a night out in Swindon and dumped her body in Uffington, Oxfordshire.

He then confessed to strangling sex worker Miss Godden after he had picked her up from Swindon and had sex with her in January 2003.

The father of three led police to a field in Eastleach, Gloucestershire, where Miss Godden's remains were discovered.
