Yahoo News Music star Beck: 'I'm not a Scientologist'
Alt-Rock star Beck has spoken about the “misconception” he is a Scientologist.
The Loser singer has long been linked to the controversial religion, practiced by Hollywood icons such as Tom Cruise and John Travolta, but has now spoken out about the myth.
His comments, made during an interview with The Sydney Morning Herald, marks the first time the musician has broached the subject in many years.

He explained: "I think there's a misconception that I am a Scientologist. I'm not a Scientologist. I don't have any connection or affiliation with it.
"My father has been a Scientologist for a long time, but I've pretty much just focused on my music and my work for most of my life, and tended to do my own thing...I think it's just something people ran with."
Despite these claims, it is fair to see where this misconception may come from.
Beck has previously stated his father has been a long-time devotee of the religion, and was practicing when the singer was born back in 1970.
His ex-wife, actress Marissa Ribisi, twin of actor Giovanni, is also a second generation Scientologist, and he has previously confirmed his affiliation with it during an interview with The New York Time’s magazine back in 2005.
The same year he also told the Sunday Tribune’s i Magazine: "Yeah, I'm a Scientologist. My father has been a Scientologist for about 35 years, so I grew up in and around it."
The star emerged onto the alternative scene with lo-fi slacker anthem Loser in 1993.
He has since received huge commercial and critical success across his numerous albums and singles.
His two most popular works, albums Odelay and Sea Change were ranked amongst Rolling Stone Magazine’s 500 Greatest Albums of All Time in 2003.
His fourteenth studio album, Hyperspace, was released on Friday.
