A new space for the "spiritual and educational needs of the Muslim community" has been opened in Bushey.

The Bushey Islamic Circle (BIC) joins the existing community centres for Christian, Jewish, and Jain residents, over a mile stretch referred to as Bushey's Multifaith Mile.

Located in the historic Bushey Country Club, the BIC isn't only a place of worship but also a centre for community activities.

It features prayer facilities, hosts community events, leads exercise classes, runs health and nutritional talks, and organises youth clubs.

A spokesperson for the BIC said: "Beyond the physical beauty of Bushey’s natural landscape, people from all walks of life are residents of Bushey.

"Many of us have called Bushey home our entire lives and it’s been a blessing to grow up alongside diverse communities whether in terms of faith, heritage, worldview or otherwise.

"We’re thrilled to be able to have a space for Bushey’s long-standing Muslim community, offering prayer spaces, social events, exercise classes, and educational talks.

"Where possible, we hope to one day ensure that social events, exercise classes among others are open to the wider community.

"We’re looking forward to working with the broader Bushey community to ensure that Bushey remains a place we can be proud of."

BIC joins a diverse gathering of religions calling Bushey home, including Christians, Bahá’ís, Hindus, Jains, and others.

The spokesperson confirmed that the centre aims to encourage participation from all strands of Bushey's residents.

They also reiterated their commitment to making Bushey a location of unity and pride for all its inhabitants.
