What did you miss?
Myleene Klass was in tears discussing her personal experiences of four miscarriages on Loose Women.
The panel were discussing baby loss certificates after it was announced parents in England who have lost a baby before 24 weeks can now get a certificate to mark their loss to help them with the grieving process. A panellist on Friday's show, the I'm A Celebrity Legend winner shared her own experiences of miscarriage and she broke down in tears "ripping that bandaid".
Wiping away her tears, the presenter reached out to get the tissues while she was overcome with emotions on the TV panel show. Loose Women star Judi Love rallied around her and placed a comforting hand on her shoulders.
What, how and why?
Speaking from the heart, Klass said: "It isn't a legal document, I want to manage expectations. It won't be on your medical records... I've had four [miscarriages], I've registered two onto my medical records. It's data for you, your children. If they ask about fertility issues. I didn't know my aunty had a miscarriage."
At this moment, tears were rolling down her face and she apologised to the rest of the panel. "Sorry!" She said. "I keep ripping that bandaid." She joked that the Loose Women stars knew she would be in tears when she joined the show.
Openly the mum shared women's real life experiences of miscarriages - saying they don't happen at the doctors, it could happen anywhere whether that's on the school run or at the dinner table. She further explained: "There are people who have had miscarriages, you don't miscarry at the doctors, you miscarry on the school run. I miscarried on radio."
She elaborated: "The movies paint that your in your bed. You might be at a dinner table, you have to keep the pretence up because your children are there... It is so cruel and it should be on your medical records."
Talking about the baby loss certificates, Klass said it was a good step in the right direction. She said: "For me I think anything that marks or gives comfort it can be a keepsake that's a good thing. You can't tell people how to grieve, people grieve in different ways, some people want a reminder, other people will want something different."
Myleene Klass on miscarriage campaigning
Klass - who raises her children Apollo, Hero and Ava - has been campaigning for better miscarriage care as she wants to normalise the conversation around the topic. It's a cause close to her heart, having had four miscarriages which she publicly shared for the first time in 2020 after being inspired by Chrissy Teigen told her story.
In 2021, she made a documentary Myleene Klass: Miscarriage & Me to shine a light on pregnancy loss as people often shy away from talking about their experiences and pain. Her fourth miscarriage happened when she was live on air on Smooth Radio. She shared her harrowing story with You magazine in 2021.
"I was on air. I went to the loo while the music was playing and there was blood everywhere and I didn’t know what to do – I had one hour left of my show,” she said. "I rang Lauren Laverne and she said: ‘Do one link, take a breath, come out and call me.’ She got me through. I did the next link and called her. We counted the links. I would go out, sob and come back in, take a deep breath and speak. I don’t know what else I would have done. I was on air."
