Myton School reveals 'vague threat' it received that caused evacuation of pupils

The reason pupils and staff were evacuated from a West Midlands school has been revealed by the educational site. A vague threat was sent via email to Myton School in Warwick late this morning, May 20, and it forced the school to take action in response.

Staff and students were evacuated from all of the school's buildings by management as a result. Earlier this afternoon, Warwickshire Police remained at the school and a stretch of Myton Road where the school is based was closed off, reports CoventryLive.

Some parents and carers had expressed concerns about a lack of information around the incident and the situation itself. The school took to its Facebook page where it issued a statement about the incident. It's not yet known if the school, where pupils were doing exams today, will re-open tomorrow.

"Parents & carers, this morning we received a vague threat via email against our school." the statement reads. "As always the first priority was the safety of students and staff, who were all evacuated from the buildings.

"We appreciate the communication was difficult at this time as we had such limited access to systems." The statement goes on to explain: "Thank you very much for your prompt responses which allowed us to send Year 7 to 10 students home.

"We are working on a plan to get Year 11 and above students home as they were evacuated out of exams without their phones and other personal belongings. Throughout this incident the children have been amazing and Mr Perry would like to thank every single one of them for acting so responsibly in a very trying situation.

"The Police Chief inspector has said thank you for your patience and support. He also thanks staff and students for their very prompt responses."

West Midlands Ambulance Service (WMAS) confirmed that it was called to an incident at just before 11.45am this morning. A WMAS spokesperson said: "We were called to an incident at Myton School in Warwick at 11.44am. Two paramedic officers were sent to the scene. There were no patients requiring treatment and we were stood down."

A police presence remains at the school. Warwickshire Police has yet to issue an update on the investigation.
