Naked Rollercoaster Rider: Meet The Financial Advisor Who Strips For Nude Theme Park Thrills

You would think the adrenaline rush of being on a rollercoaster would be enough for some people.

Not for David Ellis, 49, a financial advisor from Lowestoft, Suffolk, who takes all his clothes off before he hops on the theme park ride.

The father-of-one is a veteran of more than 1,000 rollercoasters around the world, but he has recently added a new dimension to his hobby: going naked.

On Sunday, he took part in his sixth nude rollercoaster run along with more than 50 other naked adrenaline junkies on the Green Scream at Southend’s Adventure Island.

He did his first naked rollercoaster as a dare in 1999 on Megafobia at Oakwood Theme Park in Wales.

He has also ridden Thorpe Park’s Nemesis Inferno wand Alton Towers’ Nemesis without clothes.

The naked riders at Adventure Island on Sunday tried to break a world record for most nude people on a rollercoaster, set by 102 participants at the same venue in 2010.

And even though the attempt was a failure - only 57 made it on to the Green Scream this time - the event still raised £10,000 for Southend Hospital Charitable Foundation’s Keyhole Cancer Appeal.

David said: “Being naked at the end of October is probably not everyone’s idea of fun - but I find that while you’re on the ride it’s cold but as soon as you stop at the station there’s a bit of a warm glow.

“Most naked rollercoaster events tend to be more in the summer - this was the first time we had done something like this so late in the year.

“I don’t get self-conscious stripping off in front of so many people. It is a bit surreal but I think there’s a lot of camaraderie.”

His wife Susan, 53, herself a veteran of 996 rollercoasters, held his clothes on Sunday and took photos. The couple married at a European Coaster Club trip in Las Vegas in 2002.
