Naomi Biden's Secret Service Detail Fires Gun During Attempted Car-Jacking

In a statement, the agency said it believes "no one was struck" during the incident

A Secret Service agent on Joe Biden's granddaughter  Naomi Biden's security detail shot at suspects attempting to break into a government vehicle in Washington, D.C. overnight, with the agency saying it believes "no one was struck" during the incident.

In a statement sent to PEOPLE, Secret Service spokesman Anthony Guglielmi said: “On Nov. 12 around 11:58 p.m. in the Georgetown neighborhood of Washington, DC, Secret Service agents encountered possibly three individuals breaking a window on a parked and unoccupied government vehicle."

“During this encounter, a federal agent discharged a service weapon and it is believed no one was struck," Guglielmi added. "The offenders immediately fled the scene in a red vehicle and a regional lookout was issued to supporting units. There was no threat to any protectees and the incident is being investigated by the DC Metropolitan Police Department and the Secret Service."

The incident is now being investigated by the DC Metropolitan Police Department and the Secret Service.

Naomi, 29, is a D.C.-based attorney who married fellow lawyer Peter Neal in a White House ceremony last November.
