Nashville Zoo Celebrates Conservation Win After Birth of Fifth Rare Fanaloka

The Nashville Zoo recently celebrated the birth of a male fanaloka, almost two years after the first known spotted fanaloka to be born in the US made its debut at the zoo.

The nocturnal mammals – also called Malagasy civets – are native to Madagascar.

The fanaloka pup, born on March 10, weighs about a quarter of a pound and is the fifth of the rare and adorable mammals to be in the zoo’s care, the zoo said in a press release.

The animals are classified as vulnerable by the International Union for the Conservation of Nature. Credit: Nashville Zoo via Storyful
