Yahoo News Natalie Portman's new Apple TV+ thriller drops first-look trailer
Natalie Portman investigates two mysterious deaths in the first trailer for streaming service Apple TV+'s Lady in the Lake.
The seven-part thriller series casts the Oscar winner as investigative journalist Maddie Schwartz, working in 1960s Baltimore at the height of the city's racial tensions.
Maddie takes on two cold cases — the murders of an 11-year-old child and a bartender called Cleo (The Queen's Gambit's Moses Ingram) — but finds her own dark secrets surfacing the deeper she digs into the case.
"You wanted to tell everyone's story but your own," an apparition of Cleo tells Maddie at one point.

Soundtracked by "The Impossible Dream (The Quest)", the trailer hints at a surrealist tone to Lady in the Lake as it veers between hallucinations and reality.
Honey Boy director Alma Har'el has adapted author Laura Lippman's novel of the same name, which was praised by horror icon Stephen King.
Alongside Ingram and Portman, Lady in the Lake features Stranger Things' Brett Gelman as Maddie's estranged husband, alongside Superman's David Corenswet, Noah Jupe (A Quiet Place Part II), and Y'lan Noel (Insecure).
The project marks Portman's first-ever recurring TV role. She is executive-producing the project as well.
Aside from her upcoming TV series, Portman recently signed on to star opposite John Krasinski in director Guy Ritchie's new movie Fountain of Youth.

The film, which also comes from Apple TV+, centers around a pair of estranged siblings who reunite for an impossible adventure — finding a mythical fountain of youth. The script comes from James Vanderbilt, whose CV includes Scream VI and Adam Sandler's Netflix movie Murder Mystery.
Lady in the Lake will premiere on July 19, 2024 on Apple TV+.
