National Weather Service says another tornado hit Cottonwood

HOUSTON COUNTY, Ala (WDHN) — The National Weather Service (NWS) determined an EF0 tornado struck the town of Cottonwood during early morning storms on Friday, May 10.

The tornado produced winds up to 85 mph.

An NWS report says the EF0 tornado touched down on Hooper Cherry Road early Friday morning, snapping trees before moving down A.J. Register Road, where winds caused significant damage to buildings.

The tornado continued southeast down Cottonwood Road near County Road 33 and Gene Terry Road south of Nobles Road. The NWS noted several buildings suffered roof damage along these roads.

The tornado dissipated around 4:20 a.m.

The NWS performed the survey remotely using photos provided by the Houston County EMA.

This is not the first time Cottownwood has been the center of Wiregrass storms. The small town suffered major destruction earlier this year after an EF-2 tornado touched down.
