Nature workshop at Old Fire Station deemed 'a resounding success'

AN EVENT aimed at connecting its attendees with nature has been deemed "a resounding success".

IGNITE IN NATURE, which was held on May 17 at The Old Fire Station, Salt Lane, welcomed more than 60 attendees to a day filled with insightful talks, creative workshops, and meaningful discussions on connecting with nature and addressing environmental challenges.

The event featured a diverse lineup of speakers, including Dr. Olivia Chapple of Horatio’s Garden, who shared the mission of supporting the wellbeing of individuals with spinal injuries through therapeutic gardens.

Francesca Tyer led a dynamic writing workshop, while Tim Scrace tackled the issue of greenwashing, urging attendees to hold corporations accountable for their environmental claims.

Other notable speakers included:

• Rebecca Twigg, who talked about Social and Therapeutic Horticulture on mental health

• Richard Connell, who presented sustainable solutions in landscape design

• Anselm Audley, who offered historical insights on urban riverbanks and connections with water.

• Charlotte Moreton, who highlighted creative community projects in the Cranborne Chase AONB

• Vickie Wood from Plantlife, who introduced lessons from pioneering "No Mow May" campaign

• Roger Tyrell, who inspired attendees to reclaim and revitalise unused spaces

The choreographed and newly planted temporary urban garden of the courtyard of the Old Fire Station provided a "sun-soaked restorative backdrop" to the workshop as well as an entertaining spot for lunchtime cocktails with Salisbury Chamber.

"We are thrilled with the great turnout and collaborative connections made at IGNITE IN NATURE," said Tim Scrace.

"The event helped foster deeper connections with our talented creative and business community, as well as encouraged proactive discussions on both environment and social issues."

Organisers added: "To continue the momentum, we invite everyone to engage with both nature and the Salisbury Art Trail 2024, which starts this bank holiday weekend. Be sure to check out Tim Scrace’s latest exhibition, 'Greenwash', which explores the climate crisis and its human impact.

"Special thanks to our fantastic speakers, collaborators, and the University of Winchester for their invaluable support."

The exhibition will be held at Salisbury Guildhall from May 28 to June 7.

Additionally, Frankie Sinclair, another member of the Scrace Architects team, will showcase her work at Sonder cafe from June 5 to June 9.
