Navalny Mural in Buenos Aires Draws Complaints, Police Presence

Police were called on Russian and Argentine artists and activists who were painting a mural of the late anti-Kremlin activist Alexei Navalny in Buenos Aires, Argentina, on March 31.

Video filmed Current Time, Radio Free Europe/Radio Liberty’s Russian-language service, shows police at the site of the memorial mural just outside Parque Lezama in the city’s San Telmo neighborhood.

One police officer at the scene told Current Time they received multiple calls from neighbors complaining about the painting of the mural.

Activists at the scene, including Russian artist and Buenos Aires resident Yekaterina Solodina and Russian lawyer Liliana Borisyuk, said they believed that the calls were orchestrated by the Russian Embassy, according to Current Time.

Ultimately, the painting was allowed to continue and people were seen laying flowers at the site. Credit: Current Time via Storyful
