Ncuti Gatwa's Doctor Who costumes to reference past Doctors
Doctor Who star Ncuti Gatwa's costumes will hark back to past Time Lords.
The sci-fi show's costume designer Pam Downe discussed the Fifteenth Doctor's outfits during an interview for Doctor Who Magazine, where she specifically referenced a Regency-era costume from an episode co-starring Mindhunter's Jonathan Groff.
"I like to control the colours," said Downe.

"I don't know if viewers will pick up on it, but the burgundy velvet of Ncuti's jacket is a nod to past Doctors. I like to put little nods to the past in where I can."
Jon Pertwee's Third Doctor springs to mind, who himself enjoyed a bit of velvet.
Gatwa previously spoke of his appreciation for Pertwee's on-screen wardrobe, telling Rolling Stone: "I love Jon Pertwee, the Third Doctors outfits. Lovely velvet jackets and frilly shirts. I feel a connection to him, our Doctors are the only two who dress like sluts.
"The day Russell [T Davies] invited me to meet everybody, they asked me what sort of costume I wanted. I showed them this Ralph Lauren collection that was in partnership with Historically Black Colleges in America. I love those pieces, they're so preppy and so Black."

In other news, Gatwa once revealed that he was told off for swearing while wearing the Doctor's costume.
"I got called into [Davies'] office. Woo! And he let me know that that's not acceptable," he told Radio Times, before quoting his boss: "'Do what you want when you're out of costume, but when you're in costume, do not let us catch you swearing'.
"I was like, 'Fair enough'. And I guess that was a lesson."
Doctor Who will return for its 14th series in May, airing on BBC One in the UK and Disney+ elsewhere. Classic episodes of Doctor Who are available on BBC iPlayer in the UK.
