Nearly 17-mile diversion for three-mile A390 road closure in Truro

A lengthy diversion will be in place for motorists from today as a portion of the A390 leading to the A30 will be closed for vital roadworks in Truro. A nearly 17-mile diversion will be imposed for the three-mile road closure.

The road that will be closed is the stretch between the Langarth Park & Ride and the Chiverton Interchange. Instead of taking this route motorists will have to divert back towards Truro then down towards the Four Cross roundabout at Penryn and up again via the A393 past Barncoose, before joining the A30 at Redruth Highway.

It's being imposed so resurfacing works can be carried out in the area overnight with the closure in place from tonight (Monday, May 20) between 7pm and 6am. Cornwall Council states the closure will be in place every night this week, until Friday (May 31) and that it will reopen the road earlier if possible.

The Cormac closure states the road will be completely closed on the A390 between Threemilestone Roundabout and West Langarth Farm. A spokesperson for National Highways said: "The A390 will be closed overnight for vital roadworks between Langarth Park & Ride and the Chiverton Interchange on weeknights from 7pm until 6am, starting on Monday 20 May until Friday 31 May.

"As part of the Northern Access Road project, Cornwall Council’s contractor Cormac will be carrying out surfacing work on the A390 between West Langarth and Threemilestone in preparation for a traffic switch in June.

"Meanwhile, the A30 Chiverton to Carland Cross upgrade project will be carrying out surfacing and statutory utility work on the A390 between the Chiverton Interchange and Penstraze in preparation for the opening of the new A30 in June.

"Both of these operations require sections of the A390 to be closed and therefore are scheduled to be delivered simultaneously in an effort to minimise disruption. You can find out more and view the main diversion route to the A30 below."
