A power outage in southeast New Brunswick has largely been resolved Monday afternoon, after thousands spent much of the Victoria Day holiday without power stemming from a transmission line issue in the Shediac area.

As of 4:30 p.m., about 611 customers are still without electricity, mostly in Shediac and surrounding areas.

That's down from nearly 25,000 earlier Monday morning.

In an email to CBC News, an NB Power spokesperson said the power failure was caused by a transmission outage.

"This morning's outage was caused by a transmission line tripping in the Shediac area. We're currently investigating the root cause."

They went on to say crews are actively working to restore power and won't stop until everyone is reconnected.

The utility's website is reporting 12 unplanned outages with the bulk in the Shediac-Cap-Pelé area.

The bulk of the outages, 594, are expected to be fixed by 11:30 p.m.

NB Power said it is encouraging affected customers to report outages online or by phone.
