'Nearly 300' Students Arrested at CUNY During Overnight Raid

“Nearly 300” students were arrested at the City College campus of the City University of New York (CUNY) overnight into May 1, according to local media.

The school confirmed NYPD officers arrived on campus shortly before midnight and arrested “a number of individuals.”

Later that night, NYPD Deputy Commissioner Kaz Daughtry hailed a “proud moment" as officers restored “order” at the university, “culminating in raising Old Glory once again on their campus flagpole” after lowering a Palestinian flag.

Hundreds of CUNY faculty and staff staged a sick-out on May 1, internationally known as May Day, in solidarity with students, according to the CUNY On Strike Campaign. Credit: Joseph Entin via Storyful
