Nestle - the renowned chocolate brand - has some secrets that might surprise you.

Contrary to popular belief, the company didn't invent many of our favourite sweet treats. A TikTok user named Elijah Explores Business revealed a significant secret about the brand that left viewers astounded.

In his video, he highlighted Rowntree's as an "iconic" British brand that doesn't get enough recognition. He argued it should be more appreciated, as it is responsible for creating many of the delicious sweets we Brits enjoy.

Despite common assumptions that Nestle developed the recipes for beloved chocolates like KitKat, Aero, Fruit Pastilles and Smarties, this isn't entirely accurate. Quality Street and Rolos also weren't conceived by Nestle's team.

Elijah explained: "My rule of thumb is, if you're eating it, it's probably made by Rowntree's. You're probably thinking 'how can you see Nestle, not Rowntree's on the packaging of the products?'

"The reason is that Nestle purchased Rowntree's in 1988. I personally think it was a steal considering how many products Rowntree's has actually made."

The Swiss company acquired the brand in the late 80s but chose to retain Rowntree's as the name for their UK fruit confectionery range. That's why you sometimes see the name appear on the packaging.

After Elijah unveiled this sweet revelation on the internet, people have been astonished by the prodigious production of candies at Rowntree's. Even though a simple Google search can corroborate the story, it left many flabbergasted.

One individual commented: "Unreal. This channel is so good." Another added in surprise: "I never knew that."

However, one discerning commenter pointed out a potential issue, which is that Rowntree's wasn't initially responsible for the creation of Quality Street or Rolo chocolates. According to them, Mackintosh was the original producer in the 1930s, prior to joining forces with Rowntree's later.

Acknowledging the discrepancy, Elijah responded: "I realised that once I posted, but largely it's part of Rowntrees empire. I suppose it's hard to structure when talking about their products."

Nevertheless, next time you're enjoying your chocolate confectionery, you might want to pay attention to its wrapper, as its deliciously secret history could be just a glance away.
