Netflix Baby Reindeer star Richard Gadd's blink and you'll miss it Outlander role

Scots comedian Richard Gadd is currently basking in the success of his Netflix series Baby Reindeer, which has become one of the streaming giant's most popular hits ever. The Fife-born comic, 35, portrays a fictionalised version of himself as he grapples with an unsettling stalker.

The show, based on Gadd's 'real-life' experiences, has sparked significant controversy, with Fiona Harvey revealing herself as 'Martha' in a number of Daily Record exclusives over the past few weeks. Gadd plays Donny, a character who he based on himself as he explored a tumultuous period of his life. Adapted from his solo Edinburgh Fringe performance, Baby Reindeer continues to dominate the UK Netflix chart at number one - and has similar success across the globe.

However, Gadd is no newcomer to the screen and, in addition to his comedic work, has established a career as an actor. His acting credits include a brief appearance in Scots time-travel fantasy Outlander.

The star portrayed Duff, a former crew member of the ship Gloriana, in the fifth season episode 'Mercy Shall Follow Me' of Outlander. He served under the villainous captain Stephen Bonnet, who assaulted Brianna.

As a former crewman of Brianna's husband Roger MacKenzie, Duff provides advice to the Frasers and MacKenzies on how to locate Bonnet in the books, reports the Scottish Daily Express.

Perhaps Gadd's other most notable role before Baby Reindeer was when he starred alongside Daniel Mays in the 2017 BAFTA-nominated BBC Two single drama Against the Law. The drama tells the story of privately gay journalist Peter Wildeblood (played by Mays) who falls for ex-serviceman Eddie McNally, portrayed by Gadd.

Wildeblood was convicted of homosexual activities and handed an 18-month sentence as part of the infamous Montagu Trial in the 1950s, following McNally's damning testimony against him. Gadd has also appeared in BBC Three drama Cliques and Channel Four's Humans.
