Netflix is developing an original series based on Minecraft, the world’s most popular video game. The show is being produced in partnership with the Swedish developer of the game, Mojang Studios, and the Canadian animation studio WildBrain.

Announced as part of the game’s 15th-anniversary celebration, the news was revealed via a 20-second teaser of a Creeper – a zombie-like character from the game – and the Netflix logo situated within the blocky Minecraft world.

While no specific plot details are known, Netflix says that the series “will feature an original story with new characters, showing the world of ‘Minecraft’ in a new light.”

WildBrain has already developed a slew of action-packed animated shoes for the streamer, including Sonic Prime and Ninjano: Dragons Rising. Mojang, meanwhile, currently has a Minecraft movie in the works for a 2025 release, starring Jack Black, Jason Momoa, Danielle Brooks and Emma Myers.
