Netflix’s Reed Hastings: Joe Biden “Needs to Step Aside” for Another Democrat

Netflix co-founder Reed Hastings said in an email this week that President Biden should step down from the 2024 presidential election.

“Biden needs to step aside to allow a vigorous Democratic leader to beat Trump and keep us safe and prosperous,” Hastings wrote to The New York Times.

Hastings’ comments join a growing number of outspoken Democrat supporters calling for Biden to step down, agitated by the president’s performance during last week’s debate. Per NYT, Hastings and his wife, Patty Quillin, have donated more than $20 million to the Democratic party in recent years.

Netflix declined to comment on Hastings’ statement.

On Friday, Endeavor chief Ari Emanuel also expressed his frustrations over 81-year-old Biden’s recent performance in relation to his age. “Well, I’m pissed off at the founding fathers,” he said at the Aspen Ideas Festival. “They had the start date of 35 years old, they just didn’t give us the end date. And, well, everybody died [back then], so they didn’t have to give the end date.”

He also accused the president’s advisers of hiding the full truth of Biden’s physical stamina and mental acuity. “I had a father who died at 92, but at 81 I took away his car, and it was a very simple test for me,” he said. “If you were driving from downtown Beverly Hills to Malibu, would you want Biden to do it at night? Would you want Trump to do it at night? If the answer is neither, you cannot have them running a $27 trillion company called the United States.”

Biden will face the press again this Friday, when he speaks to George Stephanopoulos in his first televised interview since the debate. ABC News will stagger the rollout of the interview, releasing pieces across multiple programs.
