Netflix Reportedly Cancels 'Horizon Zero Dawn' Series Adaptation Following Allegations of Misconduct Against Showrunner

Netflix is reportedly cancelling its series adaptation of Guerrilla Games' popular Horizon Zero Dawn video game.

Rolling Stone senior reporter Cheyenne Roundtree took to X to share the report, "Scoop: Rolling Stone has learned that two of 'Umbrella Academy' showrunner Steve Blackman's projects that were in development at Netflix, a Horizon Zero Dawn series and an original series, Orbital, are no longer moving forward." In late June, Roundtree wrote a damning expose detailing Blackman's supposed workplace misconduct; twelve sources, who worked as former writers and staffers on The Umbrella Academy, spoke to Rolling Stone about their time on the show, while an HR complaint obtained by the publication accused the showrunner of having a “long history of toxic, bullying, manipulative, and retaliatory behavior.”

The Horizon Zero Dawn adaptation was officially announced by Netflix in August 2022, although the streamer has yet to officially confirm both the adaptation and Orbital's cancellations.
