Netflix fans are raving about a three-year-old series with a plot twist which left them 'traumatised.' Behind Her Eyes, from Marvel's The Punisher writer Steve Lightfoot, debuted on the streamer in February 2021.

The six-part limited series stars Simona Brown as Louise, a single mum whose world is thrown off kilter when she begins an affair with her new boss David (Tom Bateman). Louise is then drawn into an unlikely friendship with his wife Adele (Eve Hewson).

The British psychological thriller is based on the 2017 novel of the same name by Sarah Pinborough. Viewers of the Netflix adaptation are admitting they still haven't got over the 'disturbing' twist, hailed as 'the biggest ever.'

Taking to X, formerly Twitter, @PookiesParadise asked: "What's a movie that had the BIGGEST PLOT TWIST EVER and it still blows your mind just thinking about it ????". Among those offering up their responses was @theereal_one, who posted a photo of two of the film's characters (which we won't reveal to avoid spoilers!) writing: "When I tell you I couldn’t sleep for like a week".

He followed up with his post revealing the name of the series. Responding to @theereal_one, @JoyyUnSpeakable admitted: "I haven’t recovered from this limited series YET" as @VeneshaLaVie agreed: "This movie made me siicckk. It was so good but disturbing".

@jicolesweets said: "Still traumatized" as @zakariaraqiq reckoned: "The twist is out of this world". @AricaChristine wrote: "This s*** had me in a f****** chokehold omg the plot twist".

However critics weren't as generous with their own verdicts. The series earned a critics' score of 63% on Rotten Tomatoes, with many criticising the show's lack of depth and the plot twist which had so many raving.

Financial Times' Suzi Feay said of the series: "It is probably intended to make you want to go back and watch the whole series again with fresh eyes (remember the title?). The only problem is, the run up is so ponderous you might not even make it as far as the twist in the first place."

ArtsATL's Steve Murray admits he admires the series' twist, but warns: "To achieve its impact, though, the limited series requires you not merely to suspend your disbelief, but strap it to a rocket and send it to the Milky Way." But Why Tho? A Geek Community's Charles Hartford reckoned: "Behind Her Eyes is a mixed bag. While I think the acting is strong, the show doesn’t do enough with it."

Behind Her Eyes is available to stream now on Netflix.
