Griselda on Netflix is the new drama we can't get enough of, diving into the origin story of female drug kingpin, Griselda Blanco. Based on a true story and from the creators of Narcos, the Sofía Vergara-led series has shot straight into the Top 10 on the streaming service, and for good reason. But will there be a Griselda season 2? Here's all the latest news and updates you need to know.

First things first, what is Griselda about?

The first series, which dropped on Netflix on the 25th January 2024, follows of Griselda Blanco, as she attempts to make it in Miami's criminal underworld. After moving from Medellín in Colombia, to get away from her abusive husband, she uses her ambition and savvy business acumen to make it it in the cocaine selling world.

Has Griselda been confirmed for a season two?

*Spoilers*

As anyone who has finished Griselda season one will know, a second season is probably unlikely - due to the fact she dies at the end of season one. The series sees her put in prison for seven years for an all manner of crimes (including killing Dario Sepulveda), with former Miami police officer June Hawkins visiting her towards the end of her sentence.

We see Griselda with greying hair discovering all three of her songs have been murdered, with an epilogue after the final scene explaining she returned to Medellín, Colombia, after her release from prison, and was eventually murdered in 2012 at the age of 69.

Also, the series was commissioned as a limited series, which means it was always intended to be a one off. And while that isn't a hard and fast rule (Netflix have commissioned follow ups to limited series in the past), it's a pretty good indication of their intentions.

Why did Griselda season one end the way it did?

Speaking to ScreenRant about their decision to end with a final scene of Griselda in priosn, director Andrés Baiz explained, "I found that this finale was much more tragic. She’s now alone in prison, but emotionally, she’s devastated. Her sons are not there anymore. We thought that was much more tragic and that we could design something that was much more, I would say, poetic or different."
