Newcastle have already tried to sign Miguel Almiron replacement amid intriguing EURO 2024 wildcard

Newcastle United may well have sold both Elliot Anderson and Yankuba Minteh in recent days but there summer selling spree isn't expected to stop there.

Martin Dubravka is expected to be sold following the signings of goalkeepers Odysseas Vlachodimos and John Ruddy, while Callum Wilson has been heavily linked with an exit, amid interest from West Ham United and a host of Saudi clubs.

And Miguel Almiron could also be sold on, with Newcastle known to be in the market for a new right-winger. The Magpies have been linked with the likes of Jarrod Bowen and Michael Olise, who has since joined Bayern Munich already this summer, and the sale of Almiron could fund a big-money move for an upgrade.

Almiron has two years remaining on his contract and it is understood former club Atlanta United have a 20% sell-on clause if he is sold on this summer.

The 30-year-old almost joined Saudi Pro League club Al-Shabab during the January transfer window and although he is settled with his family in the North East, having been at Newcastle now for five-and-a-half years, there is fresh interest from an unnamed Saudi club this summer.

Talks have already taken place and it could well be the right time for Newcastle to cash in on a player who has been an excellent servant but one who may need to be moved on for Newcastle to move towards the next level in their growth.

Should Almiron leave, Newcastle will be in the market for an upgrade and, interestingly, they have already tried to sign his ideal replacement.

Using Macro Football’s player impact tool, which uses analytics to understand a player’s seasonal impact to see which players in European football's top five leagues are most similar to Almiron's characteristics, Aston Villa's Jacob Ramsey scores as the most similar player with a 99.9% similarity rating.

Ideally, Eddie Howe would like to sign a player who is similar to the Paraguay international, but who is considered an upgrade, and the former England under-21 international certainly fits the bill.

And, interestingly, Newcastle reportedly tried to sign him in the January transfer window. Ramsey has been a mainstay in the Villa side for the last three seasons but reports in January hinted Villa were considering selling him to comply with PSR rules and Newcastle had made an approach.

It remains to be seen whether Newcastle reignite that interest but it is certainly one to keep an eye on this summer. RB Leipzig and Austria midfielder Christoph Baumgartner also has a high similarity rating to Almiron.

The 24-year-old has been on of the stars of EURO 2024, helping Austria finish top of a group that also included France and the Netherlands and his performances could well trigger plenty of transfer interest this summer, too.
