Newcastle East and Wallsend candidates for the general election 2024

The Newcastle East constituency will have a new MP for the first time in more than 40 years after the suspension and then retirement of long-standing Labour member Nick Brown.

Mary Glindon, whose North Tyneside constituency was abolished in the boundary review, will be hoping to stay in Parliament after being selected to contest the seat. The constituency has one of the largest slates in the region, with a number of candidates announced from minor parties, including the Communist Party and the Party of Women. Ponteland Town Councillor Rosie Hanlon will stand for the Conservatives.

The seat will take in elements of Newcastle and North Tyneside, with boundary changes making it similar to the constituency that was contested in 1997.
