Newcastle outdoor bar adds retractable roof to ensure rain won't spoil party

It's one of the biggest and biggest outdoor areas in Newcastle for drinking and dancing and Frate has now added a retractable roof to make sure that even if the British weather doesn't play ball this summer, any rain won't spoil the party.

Opening in May 2023 just off Grey Street in the city centre and behind massively popular venue Market Shaker, Frate is a mini shipping container village that is a great place to enjoy a few drinks and a bite to eat, with the giant disco ball adorned suntrap becoming an instant hit with Geordies and visitors to the city alike.

And, while the weather of late hasn't exactly screamed summertime over the last few weeks, Frate has already been packed out, with gig goe3rs to shows by the likes of Girls Aloud heading there, as well as football fans, who will continue to flock for the rest of Euro 2024, with all matches being shown on a big screen that is visible from all seating areas.

Thankfully, it does look like the weather for Newcastle is going to take a turn for the better in the coming week, which is something of a break with tradition, given that when The Hoppings is in town, it normally pours down. Temperatures look set to climb up to the 20 mark, with rain reduced to a few light showers but, even if the downpours do come, it won't impact any festivities at Frate, as the bar has confirmed that it is now home to a retractable roof.

Teasing what they had planned for Euro 2024 in a Facebook post, Frate wrote: "Massive screen, DJs before and after the match, slice boys on pizza duty and us on the booze (Oh and our new retractable roof! To keep the sun in and any potential rain out)"

Entry to Frate is completely free, but guaranteed entry tickets are available for England's Euro 2024 games.
