Newcastle PSR update slammed as 'devastating' after Anthony Gordon offered to Liverpool

Newcastle United's decision to offer Anthony Gordon in a transfer proposal involving Jarell Quansah to Liverpool has been slammed as 'devastating'.

Chronicle Live understands the Magpies have been exploring several different avenues to ensure they comply with the Premier League's Profit and Sustainability rules ahead of the June 30 deadline and there is an acceptance they will need to trade players to do so.

Elliot Anderson has reportedly been offered in swap deals for Wolves' Max Kilman and Nottingham Forest's Anthony Elanga, while Yankuba Minteh, who shone on loan at Feyenoord last season, has been put up for sale by the Magpies.

But perhaps the most shocking player they have offered elsewhere is Gordon, after it emerged he was offered to the Reds in a deal which would have seen his England team-mate Jarell Quansah move to St James' Park.

Liverpool have confirmed they were 'approached with a proposal that wasn't right for us' but reports have suggested talks over Gordon, who has also been linked with PSG, could be revived this weekend.

The revelation has not gone down well with Newcastle supporters, who have slammed the club for offering one of their best assets to a Premier League rival.

The Magpie Channel tweeted: "This is going to be a Keegan on the steps moment all over again, Eddie Howe explaining why we sold Anthony Gordon. This would be absolutely devastating."

Newcastle fan Rob added: "Zero self awareness. The fact they (Newcastle) are even open to it is a disgrace."

While another fan continued: "I'd drive Minteh to Everton or Brighton myself it meant we won't have to sell Anthony Gordon. My stance has changed somewhat if this is the ridiculous situation we truly find ourselves in. Selling Gordon would be the most sickening blow to #NUFC fans. He's adored up here."

Gordon is currently on international duty with England and is preparing to face Slovakia in the last 16 of EURO 2024 in Gelsenkirchen, Germany, on Sunday.
