Newcastle stance on Alexander Isak amid Chelsea swoop with new deal and No 9 offer possible

Newcastle United will place an astronomical price tag on Alexander Isak if clubs attempt to lure the star striker away from St James' Park.

Reports of an enquiry from Chelsea emerged on Wednesday afternoon via the Daily Mail but Newcastle's stance on Isak was the Sweden star is not for sale, while Isak has himself played down suggestions he wants a move at the end of last term. Arsenal have held a long-term interest in the striker but have not gone close with any valuation.

Isak's valuation could easily be over £200million in the eyes of Toon chiefs and certainly Chelsea would need to smash their previous transfer record of £115m which they paid for Moises Caicedo from Brighton & Hove Albion.

Isak finished last season as Newcastle's top scorer with 23 goals and his tally stands at 35 in total for the Magpies since arriving for £63m. The Magpies' have already held discussions about extending his contract with a new improved deal although his current deal runs out in 2028.

Since Isak arrived from Real Sociedad he has overcame injury issues but proved last season he can handle the heat of the Premier League and life as Newcastle's main man. Should Callum Wilson leave St James' Park this summer, with an enquiry from West Ham last week, then Isak would be the hot favourite to be handed the number 9 shirt.

Isak was asked about leaving Newcastle last spring and said: "I don't want to entertain these type of questions and rumours. It's not my position. I love playing, we have important games, there's no focus [on my future], I just want to do good for the team."

Neither Newcastle or Chelsea have responded on the record to reports of an enquiry for the striker.
