Newcastle Tie Up £10m Dwight Gayle Deal

Dwight Gayle has completed his transfer to Newcastle from Crystal Palace for £10m and has signed a five-year contract.

The 25-year-old forward becomes Rafa Benitez's second signing of the summer following the arrival of goalkeeper Matz Sels from Gent.

Gayle, who has been Palace's top scorer in each of the past three seasons, cost £6m when he arrived at Selhurst Park from Peterborough in the summer of 2013 and has scored 26 goals in 74 appearances, more than half of which have come from the substitute's bench.

He was close to joining Bristol City last summer for £9m but signed a three-year deal with Palace in April.

Meanwhile, Palace have made their first signing of the summer with England winger Andros Townsend putting pen to paper on a five-year-deal for a fee of £13 million.

Townsend said: "I'm extremely delighted. I had chats with the manager and chairman before I signed and I'm pleased to a part of Crystal Palace's future. By the sounds of things it's going to be a bright one and I can't wait to get started."

Chairman Steve Parish added: "It’s fantastic that we’ve managed to get a player of Andros’ quality into the Club. He has played in the Premier League for a number of years and represented England on many occasions and yet he's still only 24-years-old.”
