Newcastle transfers state of play: Milan star 'offered', talks for 6ft 6in ace and Olise power play

Newcastle United remain in dialogue with Burnley over a deal for James Trafford with the Clarets resisting a £16million offer for the 21-year-old this week.

The 6ft 6in stopper is wanted to provide quality competition for Nick Pope next season with Martin Dubravka's future on Tyneside looking doubtful. Newcastle won't be held to ransom but there is hope that a deal can be thrashed out in the next week or so for the England Under-21 star.

However, Trafford is not the only star to be linked with Newcastle and it looks like another busy weekend lies ahead of us in terms of transfer gossip.

Fikayo Tomori

In short, it looks like Newcastle have been "offered" the chance to sign the five-times England international by his representatives with a return to the Premier League a possibility for Tomori.

Tomori has proved he can handle the heat at one of the game's global giants in AC Milan, winning a Serie A title medal in 2022 and being a mainstay in the Rossoneri starting line-up with 35 appearances last term, including two appearances against United in the Champions League.

Milan finished second in Serie A last season and manager Stefano Pioli, a big fan of Tomori, has departed from his post. His replacement is Paulo Fonseca, who almost landed the Newcastle job in 2021.

Tomori has three years left on his deal at the San Siro but the prospect of a £35m exit is on the cards for the ex-Chelsea centre-back. The right-sided defender could fit the bill for a Premier League club but Newcastle have priorities elsewhere, this is certainly one to keep an eye on though because there has been previous interest from United on the 26-year-old.

Emile Smith Rowe

The Arsenal midfielder is another longer-term target on Newcastle's database with interest in the star stretching back to before the takeover went through. Back then Steve Bruce looked at the player as a possible loan option as he tried to make ends meet at St James' Park before the 2000-born player headed to Huddersfield Town for a temporary stint.

Despite showing flashes of brilliance for Arsenal, it looks like Mikel Arteta is prepared to let the three-times England international go this summer. A fee of around £30m has been set for the attacking midfielder.

Michael Olise

Having spoken to Olise last summer, when a deal fell through for the Crystal Palace star, Chelsea sources are claiming to have agreed personal terms on a deal for the winger this summer. The Blues can't activate the £60m release clause in his contract but are prepared to bid more in order to get their man.

This could be an expensive deal but Chelsea seem determined to land the ex-Reading man this summer. Newcastle have expressed an interest but must cut their cloth accordingly due to FFP rules and may end up being priced out of the move.

Amadou Onana

Things are moving fast at Everton - quite simply because they have to. Everton in a danger of coming unstuck by PSR rules and are desperate to avoid a points deduction or financial penalties. It means that they are desperate to offload players. Onana is a player Newcastle have been linked with before and an unnamed Champions League club have placed an enquiry on the star at £50m.

Midfield is an area Newcastle are considering but a wide man and a striker are their priority in the outfield positions.
