Newcastle transfers state of play: Ramsdale interest intensifies and £50m striker battle commences

Newcastle United boss Eddie Howe was not being coy about the club's potential transfer business when stating there was "uncertainty" in the air at St James' Park.

With talk of rules changing and potential spending limits being altered, Newcastle are being shrewd in their decision making process. Howe does not look like a man who is willing to part with Bruno Guimaraes, Alexander Isak or Callum Wilson.

But the reality is one or two players may sold and then the transfer kitty could look different. Either way, Howe has some quality options up his sleeve.

Here's the latest transfer talk from the football circuit:

Aaron Ramsdale rumours intensify for Newcastle

England international Ramsdale is admired immensely by both head coach Eddie Howe and assistant head of scouting Andy Howe. The nephew of Howe put in some serious hours scouting the 26-year-old during his Bournemouth days and there is a feeling his career could be rectified on Tyneside.

With Loris Karius already saying his goodbyes and Martin Dubravka's future up for both discussion and debate, Ramsdale would give Howe two strong England international is the ex-Sheff United stopper and Nick Pope to battle for the gloves.

A whopping fee of £60million has been bandied around at Arsenal for Ramsdale's services but there would be room for negotiation as he has no future under Mikel Arteta. It's certainly one to watch this summer.

Have Arsenal moved on from Alexander Isak?

With the Sweden striker linked with the Gunners continuously over the last couple of months, there is a suggestion that Mikel Arteta's men may be looking closely at other options.

And it looks like Arsenal could be keen on a target that Newcastle have scouted themselves over the past year or so. Step forward, Benjamin Sesko with the £50million star's agent spotted up and down the Premier League throughout the 2023/24 campaign as he touts his client for a move to England.

Currently knocking them in for RB Leipzig, there has also been interest from Manchester United and Chelsea. But talks is intensifying that Arsenal are keen on the 20-year-old. That would be good news for Newcastle if it fends off the Gunners in terms of Isak but it would be a blow if he was genuinely at the top of Howe's wish-list.

Anthony Gordon Liverpool rumour dismissed by Toon insiders

The Scouser has had a fantastic first full season at St James' Park with the Reds linked with a move for him this summer. But those close to United's backroom team do not believe there is any realistic chance of him signing for Everton's city rivals or one of Newcastle's closest competitors in the Premier League.

If anything, Newcastle chiefs see a change of manager at Anfield as an opportunity to steal a march on the Reds. Last season, Newcastle grabbed a place in the top four at Liverpool's expense and a similar mindset could be needed this summer.

And if the Magpies are to make that type of progress, then they won't do it selling their star names. At 23, Gordon is deemed a man for today and tomorrow by Newcastle bosses.
