Newcastle United 1-1 Brighton player ratings: Anthony Gordon & Tino Livramento shine for Magpies

Newcastle United now face a nervous wait to see if they will be back in Europe next season after dropping two points at home.

With Toon chairman Yasir Al-Rumayyan watching on from the director's box, Newcastle initially struggled to show their clinical side and then switched off defensively in the opening stages. The Seagulls grabbed a shock lead on 18 minutes after Joel Veltman flicked home to edge the South Coast side ahead at the Leazes End after Pascal Gross' corner.

Alexander Isak and Dan Burn have had opportunities but Brighton too could have had more. But Newcastle hauled themselves back into the game through Sean Longstaff who tapped home after Elliot Anderson's cross.

The second half proved to be a story of frustration as Brighton got men behind the ball and even a flurry of substitutes could not earn a vital win.
