Newcastle United could get FFP aid as £15m raid plotted by Premier League rival

Newcastle United are expected to sell a number of players this summer to aid their financial balance sheet amid concerns surrounding the Profit and Sustainability Rules (PSR). The club are expected to move some players on during the summer transfer window to help fund new arrivals for Eddie Howe.

While that has alerted the likes of Arsenal, Chelsea and Tottenham Hotspur, who have been linked with players such as Bruno Guimaraes or Alexander Isak, the Mags are understood to have no plans to sell the pair and any departures are likely to come from elsewhere.

Another player now being linked with a transfer bid is Sean Longstaff, with Leicester City said to be plotting a £15m swoop for the homegrown midfielder. While the newly-promoted club are managerless at the minute having lost Enzo Maresca to Chelsea, the Foxes are stepping up their plans for additions to their squad in order to strengthen their chances of staying up.

According to The Mirror, City have been keeping an eye on midfielder Longstaff for a number of months and there had been a plan in place to launch a bid for Maresca to get his man. While a new manager will now be at the helm, the former Premier League champions are sticking to their transfer plans and are said to be ready to turn that interest into a formal bid for the player.

Howe is a known admirer of Longstaff and in an ideal world would keep hold of the 26-year-old, but a bid in the region of £15m is said to "hold appeal" to Newcastle for a player who has just one year remaining on his contract.

Leicester have already said goodbye to Dennis Praet, while Yunus Akgun is not returning after his loan spell and the future of Wilfred Ndidi is in question, leaving the club with just one advanced midfielder, and strengthening the need to move quickly to shore up numbers in the middle of the park. Newcastle would benefit from an early sale out the club to help balance the books as plans for reinforcements are put in place.
