Newcastle United dealt new blow with Yankuba Minteh sale as talks with Lyon break down

Newcastle United may have been dealt a new blow on Yankuba Minteh with his move to Lyon potentially in doubt.

Minteh saw a move to Everton break down earlier in the week after personal terms were understood to be agreed. However, the Toffees did not come up with the asking price to sign the teenager.

That left the door open for Lyon to attempt to sign the Gambia international but the suggestions from those close to the talks are that Minteh isn't sold on the idea of playing for the Ligue 1 club. With the negotiations still active it remains to be seen whether Newcastle can strike a £40m sale.

The Magpies are eager to make a sale before the June 30 PSR health check deadline and Minteh is deemed as one of the favourites who could be sold. Marseille, AS Roma and Brighton & Hove Albion have also been credited with interest for the 19-year-old.

His agent Bakary Bojang recently told Chronicle Live: "It is correct that Newcastle are willing to sell the player if they receive a good offer. From our side if Newcastle wants to sell and the sporting project is good we will definitely look at it.

"We are in communication with some club. I can't confirm clubs who are in communication with us. We have agreed terms with one of the clubs. So now the rest is with Newcastle."
