Newcastle United handed major injury boost as Callum Wilson trains after after two months out

Newcastle United boss Eddie Howe has been boosted by the return of Callum Wilson in training.

The number 9 has not been seen in action since the 3-2 win against Nottingham Forest at the City Ground back in Feburary. However, he was spotted in full training with his Newcastle team-mates after overcoming a chest injury.

Wilson has missed 10 matches in the Premier League and the FA Cup but is aiming to be back before the end of April. Howe would dearly love to welcome Wilson back for the clash at Crystal Palace this week but it remains to be seen whether that would come too early.

Notably, Wilson has a good record at Selhurst Park scoring in the 2-0 win at Palace in 2020/21 and in the 1-1 draw in 2021/22. Howe had said on Wilson recently: "He's looking good, he's doing the hard yards, running hard. He's able to keep very fit and build his strength. I anticipate when he comes back he'll be looking really good."

With six games to go Howe will simply be happy to get Wilson back on the pitch but one little incentive for the former Coventry City star is that he is just four goals shy of a half-century for the Magpies. Wilson has one year left of his current deal and believes he still have plenty to achieve on Tyneside.
